Information for Planning a Private Boating Trip in Colorado

WHO WE ARE 

Wilderness Aware is a commercial rafting company based on the Arkansas River in Colorado and the Salt River in Arizona. We also offer trips on the Gunnison, Dolores, North Platte and Upper Colorado Rivers. We offer only limited services for private boaters.

ARKANSAS RIVER PUT IN -JOHNSON VILLAGE

Private boaters may launch or take out at our private access near our headquarters on the Arkansas River at the Highway 24 bridge over the river in Johnson Village near Buena Vista. This is a take-out for trips launching in the Numbers or Narrows or even long trips launching in Pine Creek. Most commonly it is used for a put-in for Milk Run trips that take out at Ruby Mountain or Browns Canyon trips taking out at Hecla Junction or Stone Bridge. The cost for using the site is $10 per raft and $5 per kayak. Parking is free.

Private Boater Shuttles on Colorado’s Arkansas River

Wilderness Aware Rafting offers shuttles for private boaters using their own rafts or kayaks on the Upper Arkansas River between Granite and Salida. Give us a call or use our handy Arkansas River Shuttle Request Form to submit a Shuttle Request.  If you submit a request online, our staff will then reach out to you and let you know whether we are able to run the shuttle for you.  Please note, our availability is limited and functions on a first come first serve basis.  Last minute requests are harder to accommodate than earlier planning, but please reach out about our availability at any time.

Private Boater Shuttles on Arizona’s Salt River

We also offer private trip shuttles on Arizona’s Salt River. You can leave your car at our office located 100 yards from the Highway 60 launch site. We can do a full day shuttle to Hoodoos or take your car all the way to the Highway 288 Bridge. Call us or use the Salt River Shuttle Reservation Form.
