Best Time to Raft the Royal Gorge

The Royal Gorge typically runs May through September, depending on river flows.

Early Season (May – June)

Snowmelt creates higher water levels and bigger waves. This is when the Royal Gorge feels most powerful and dynamic.

Mid-Season (July)

Rapids remain exciting, but the river becomes more friendly and manageable.

Late Season (August – September)

Lower flows reveal more of the canyon’s geology and offer a more technical boating experience.

No matter the conditions, our guides adjust each trip to the river level and the comfort of the group.

  1. Check in at the river 45 minutes before your trip departure.
  2. Gear up in your river clothes, guide fitted lifejacket, helmet and grab your paddle.
  3. 15 minutes before departure, your trip leader will give you a thorough safety orientation..
  4. You’ll learn how to paddle then finally…
  5. You are on the river and the fun begins!
  6. The full day trip stops for a delicious riverside lunch.
  7. Before you know it, you arrive at the take-out. We load everything back up on the vehicle and start our short drive back to where we started the day.
  8. Change into dry clothes and say goodbye to your guide.
  9. Share your adventure with friends and family. Leave us a review and tag us on Facebook.
