Family Rafting Vacations in Colorado and
Arizona!
Rafting is an activity that all ages can enjoy! On a
raft trip, parents shouldn't have to choose between making the adults or making
the kids happy. Young kids can ride in the raft with parents without the
responsibility or the "rules" of paddling a raft. Teens can paddle as an equal
with mom and dad and can share in the excitement of navigating the rapids. When
enough teens are on a trip, a teen boat can be organized for a day or part of a
day. Wilderness Aware guides are kids at heart and enjoy creating fun for
families.
Our most popular trips are on the
Arkansas River due to the wide variety of trip
difficulties and trips lengths available. The Arkansas has a long season,
beautiful mountain scenery, and is close to Denver and Colorado Springs.
Centrally located in the state, the Arkansas is also an easy stop or side trip
on most Colorado vacation itineraries. This appeal also makes the
Arkansas one of the most popular rivers in the
country. If you are looking for a remote wilderness trip, one of our other
rivers could be a better choice.
If you would like to come rafting in May or June,
consider the North Platte or
Dolores Rivers which are both
fantastic wilderness trips available during the Rocky Mountain spring
snowmelt.
The Gunnison
River is our most remote Colorado trip and a spectacular adventure for
those looking for the ultimate backcountry adventure. A dam controlled river,
this wilderness river is available from May through early September.
If your group has small children from 5
to 8 years old, or if grandma and grandpa are going along and want to avoid the
bigger rapids, you might consider the class II Upper Colorado River or the class II
Upper Bighorn Sheep Canyon.
The Salt River is the
perfect springtime escape. Located near Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, this
desert river is a favorite of our staff and has both one day and overnight
trips of up to 5 days in length. We offer Salt River trips from March to early
May.
Wilderness Aware will start a multi-day trip on any
day of the week with a minimum of just 4 people. It only takes 2 people on some
½ and full day trips to start a new trip. We can steer compatible
families toward dates already booked by other families.
