Colorado Horseback Riding Adventure Trips!

Visit the only horseback riding stable in the Buena Vista, Colorado area that offers rides that are completely in the San Isabel National Forest and the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area! Our old west style stable is nestled between Mt. Princeton and Mt. Yale just seven miles west of Buena Vista on County Road 306, as you climb toward Cottonwood Pass. We offer daily rides from May through Labor Day.

All of our guided horseback rides include multiple exciting creek and bridge crossings and offer unparalleled views of the majestic Colorado Rocky Mountains. Experience horse back riding along a section of Colorado's famous Colorado Trail as it traverses from Denver to Durango!

100% of your time will be spent on mountain trails in the National Forest - no roads!

We offer rides that are suitable for the whole family including families with small children and we specialize in offering horses and rides for riders of all ages and experience levels. We own and personally maintain all of our own horses which creates a healthy environment and cooperative attitude in our herd. This insures that you will be riding only the highest quality mountain horses.

Choose between one, two, three, four, and five hour rides as well as several half-day rides. Take a partial day ride up to a scenic high mountain lake or choose between several different full day packages including a ride over the Continental Divide that climbs to over 12,500 feet in elevation! In addition to our scheduled trail rides we also offer private group rides on request.

MIDDLE COTTONWOOD CREEK ONE HOUR RIDE - Ride a winding route amongst the aspen and pines on the beautiful Colorado Trail. During the ride you will cross three mountain creeks and a plank covered foot-bridge. A perfect 'quick taste' of the Colorado Rockies! This ride is suitable for all ages 2 and older. Children under 5 can ride double with an adult. Departure times are flexible. Cost is $30 per person for adults and $27 for kids 2 - 12 years old.

MOUNT PRINCETON TWO HOUR RIDE - On the Colorado Trail you will cross four creeks as you ascend to over 9500' in elevation. Awe-inspiring views of the 14'000' peaks of Mt. Princeton and Mt. Yale are revealed as well as spectacular views of the Arkansas River Valley. This ride is suitable for all ages 10 and older. Departure times are flexible. Cost is $55 per person for adults and $49 for kids 10 - 12 years old.

DEAD MAN GULCH THREE HOUR RIDE - Climb a pine and sage covered mountain to over 10,000' where breathtaking views of Cottonwood Pass and the surrounding mountains of Colorado's Continental Divide await you. This is the most scenic of our short rides. Minimum age is 12 years old. Meeting times are 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Cost is $75 per person.

HARTENSTEIN LAKE FOUR HOUR RIDE - A picturesque ride though a pine covered forest to Hartenstein Lake is a great way to spend a Colorado morning. This is one of the prettiest alpine lakes in the Colorado Rockies. We'll take about an hour break to explore the surrounding area around this trout filled high mountain lake before beginning our ride back down the mountain. Minimum age is 12 years old. Meeting time is 9:00 am. Cost is $100 per person.

CONTINENTAL DIVIDE SIX HOUR RIDE - We'll take you to over 12,000 ft. in elevation for the most breathtaking scenery in Colorado. Minimum age is 12 years old. Meeting time is 8:30 am. This trip returns at 4:30 pm. Cost is $150 per person.

Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes prior to departure time. This allows you time to check in and relax before your trip departs.

Horseback rides are hosted by Harvard City Riding Stables. Max Grover, head wrangler.
