Relive History on a Breckenridge, Colorado Vacation

In 1859, during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, gold was discovered along the Blue River, and General George E. Spencer founded the town of Breckenridge. Today, more than 350 historic buildings still remain, making a Breckenridge vacation a must for anyone interested in Colorado history.

In 1882, the railroad arrived. Although the train is long gone, you can still hike the old trail on Boreas Pass Road, a must-do activity on any Breckenridge vacation. Of course, during the summer in Breckenridge, rafting and gold mine tours are also two of the more popular activities.

Over the next several decades, Breckenridge’s fortunes – and population – rose and fell. In 1961, the Breckenridge Ski Area opened, and the city’s “white gold” rush was on, putting a Breckenridge vacation at the top of every skier’s wish list. The boom was further fueled by the opening of the Eisenhower Tunnel on Interstate 70, which gave easy access to Denver and the Front Range. Once cars could easily reach Breckenridge, rafting, skiing, and a host of other outdoor activities grew more popular than ever.

Today, Breckenridge continues to redefine mountain town, while preserving its own unique history and character. For anyone looking to experience true Colorado, a Breckenridge vacation is a great choice.

In Summit County and Breckenridge, Summer Continues to Grow.
